April 2019: The Art Of Forgiveness

By Lucy Clementson-Mills

Have you ever waited for an apology which you never received? Are you still waiting?

Why do we do this?

After listening to an excellent podcast recently between Eckhart Tolle and Oprah Winfrey it made me think about all of the emotional baggage we carry around with us. Resentment we hold on to and never totally let go of.

In this podcast, Eckhart Tolle explains when we feel we have been wronged, it is our ego needing the apology. But ultimately, we want to be able to accept what has happened and move on, as we cannot change it. It is in the past.

Instead we can change this moment and choose a different ending.

It is a fascinating podcast and I don’t want to ruin it for those who may listen to it. But I felt it was apt to mention as we are now in April and the start of Spring. A perfect time for a spring clean and to throw out any unnecessary emotional baggage we may be carrying around. Letting go of any resentment we hold towards someone or something – knowing that the only person who really suffers when we do this, is us.

It isn’t easy and some situations are of course going to be a lot harder to move beyond than others. But it is possible and as Tolle explains:

“Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”

I hope you manage to find that power and start to see and feel the benefits from doing so.
