October 2018: Enjoy The Moment

As the nights are getting darker and the leaves are falling this can feel like a truly magical time of the year for a lot of people. However, for others, this is their least favourite season and they are already longing for the sunshine and booking up their holidays for next year.

Whichever camp you fall into there are still so many wonderful things to take from any day, any time of year. There is beauty and goodness in every season and any situation you may be in.

Currently, as I am writing this newsletter I am waiting for the arrival of our second baby and rather than sitting around being bored, heavy and a little fed up, I am trying to enjoy this time, knowing I won’t get this quiet period again any time soon! Attempting to balance working and cleaning the entire house, with things I wouldn’t normally get the chance to do - like reading books, playing the piano and watching an obscene amount of Game of Thrones! I'm truly appreciating the goodness in this time of my life. 

This month I encourage you to try and find the good, so you too can enjoy the moment.

If you are really not a fan of the darker nights is there anything you can find to enjoy about them? Perhaps they are the perfect excuse for a cup of hot chocolate in front of the fire or to curl up with your favourite book and just relax.

If work is really busy and you aren’t able to come up for air, is there anything positive to take from this short-term busyness? Are you at least learning something new? A new skill or getting to work with some interesting people?

Maybe you are feeling sad and cannot see how you can “enjoy” your current situation. Remember we will all experience harder times at different stages in our life and it tends to be in these darker moments we are presented with valuable life lessons, new views of the world, inspirations, motivations etc. It may not feel that way now, but remembering this will happen, will hopefully help make your transition through this period a little easier.

Sometimes when we are struggling to feel positive and to enjoy the moment it helps to take the focus away from ourselves.

On 5th October you can do exactly this as two national days are celebrated. Do Something Nice For Someone and World Smile Day are all about helping others feel happier. Doing random acts of kindness, which in turn end up making us feel happier too.

Also on 10th October, the World Health Organisation recognises World Mental Health Day and this short video gives some ideas and tips on ways we can support better mental health for ourselves, and for others. 

Sometimes what really stops us enjoying the moment is our busy minds. Feel free to try the relaxation videos available on my YouTube channel to help you let go of tension and to use the breath to keep you still, so you can enjoy where you are, moment to moment.
